Mixed Emotions About A Big Decision
Mixed Emotions About a Big Decision
Being a nurse doesn’t ever go away. Letting my license go 14 years ago was the right thing to do. It followed total burnout and the feeling that I had lost the edge. I have a tendency to be very demanding of my own skills and felt like I was slipping. Actually, I think I was just too pooped to pop.
For the past year, my husband has been out of work. I am old enough to get social security but that is not enough to live on. Combined with unemployment it is enough to have a meager existence and that is about it.
Should I spend my time writing articles for a penny per word or put them up on another site and hope for clicks? Should I go back to nursing? Steps need to be taken. The status board needs to be contacted. Requirements need to be set. The problem with this is that I cannot get any information from the state board of professional nursing until I send them a check for $90.
My questions are:
1. What if they tell me I have to go to a refresher course for a fee of an undetermined amount?
2. What else will I have to do?
3. A few years ago, I wanted to do this but the director of nursing at the hospital I was dealing with was a pathological liar so I told her I could not work for someone I couldn’t trust to be honest.
4. At that time, I didn’t have to go to school, I could do work online for CEU’s and then work at a facility for 160 hours with a preceptor.
5. Can I still do that? They won’t allege me.
All in all, frustration is at its peak right now and trying to decide when you don’t have all of the necessary information is very difficult.
In the event that I do decide to go through with this, I’ll maintain that darn license until I’m 90 years extinct and too feeble to cross the street without assistance.
