Nursing School Loans

As long as there are people, they will get sick. And, as long as people get sick, they will need nurses. Nursing is one of the most rewarding and appealing occupations. It requires a person who has very special qualities, a genuine love for people, and a desire to serve in what can sometimes be some not-very-pleasant surroundings.

Nursing schools offer the education you need to become a nurse. They do not make you a good nurse, for that can only come from within you, but they do make good nurses better. Nursing school loans are available for those who feel they can meet the challenges of nursing. These range from private and government loans which are the same as those for any other type of college education to loans which are specifically designed for those entering nursing school.

One particular type of nursing school loan that is intended strictly for that purpose is a “commitment loan.” This is a loan whereby a student agrees to work for a specific hospital or medical facility or its affiliates for a definite period of time (say, six years) in exchange for tuition reimbursement. It may be necessary for the student to pay tuition and other college expenses at the outset; however, at a obvious time, according to the institution’s policies, the money will be reimbursed.

Another example of a commitment loan is one that is offered by the armed forces. This type of loan does requirement that a student become a member of one of the branches of the military; however, a deferment is granted while the student earns his or her nursing degree.

Upon graduation, the student begins fulfilling the commitment by reporting for active duty in the chosen branch of service. After all basic and whatever additional military training required has been finished, the student is then assigned to a military hospital or other medical unit.

Commitment loans do require a promise by the student to fulfill certain obligations. A military commitment loan means you will encourage your country as a soldier or sailor, albeit one with a nursing degree. A hospital/medical facility commitment loan means that you must work for a specific organization or its affiliates for a certain length of time. This may mean relocating your place of residence, at least for a while. However, both types of commitment loans accomplish the same purpose: that of you becoming a nurse.
